Things to Think About When Choosing Italian Names for Girls
Some names you may be considering for your baby girl are actually names for boys in Italy, so keep this in mind. I explained this in details in my post on Italian male names.
Just to give you the most common examples Andrea, Nicola or Luca are exclusively boys in Italy. It would be incredibly weird to meet a girl with these names in Italy and gender-neutral names don’t really exist in Italy.
Some names you may be considering for your baby girl are actually names for boys in Italy.
Typical Italian hirl names end with -a, but there are exceptions.
- Names ending with -o are masculine.
- Names ending with -i are masculine with exceptions like Noemi.
- Names ending with -e are either masculine or feminine (eg. Rachele, Matilde, Irene).
- Names ending with -a are mostly feminine (eg. Sofia, Anna, Chiara)
