The Baby Brezza Formula Pro is an automatic formula dispenser that claims to make preparing baby bottles quick, easy, and hassle-free. Who doesn’t want to feed the baby effortlessly by just pressing a button, especially at night?
Making bottles when the hungry baby is crying can be frustrating. It might not seem like a long time, but when you’re half asleep or busy and the baby is crying every minute matters. We started with a hot water thermos at night, but then mixing it with colder water and making sure it was not too hot was a process. Naturally, I was totally on board with Baby Brezza when I first heard about it…
But, as you might imagine, things are never as simple as they might sound at first, so let’s take a look at pros and cons of Baby Brezza Formula Pro.
What is the Baby Brezza Formula Pro?
Baby Brezza Formula Pro makes bottles of formula. Think about it like of a coffee machine when all you need to do is to press a button. You just need to fill it with formula, add water to the water tank, and push a button. It mixes the formula with the warm water in the tank (it heats water to approximately 98 degrees and holds it at that temperature until you’re ready to make a bottle) to create a perfectly heated bottle, all in less than 15 seconds.
Baby Brezza Formula Pro vs Advanced
With the Formula Pro Advanced, Baby Brezza made a number of upgrades to the original Formula Pro. They reduced the number of pieces that need cleaning, the unit is smaller, there’s now a digital display to choose settings, and you can now make bottles in one-ounce size increments instead of only even-numbered sizes vs the original.
Design and Ease of Use
It does take a while to set it up at first because it comes in multiple pieces but let’s be real: many strollers, cribs and other baby items come disassembled too and the initial time investment is a must.
The Baby Brezza Formula Pro is designed to make preparing bottles as simple as possible. The machine is relatively compact and has a sleek, modern look that should fit in well with most kitchen decor.
The product is straightforward to use, with a few buttons that allow you to adjust the amount of formula dispensed and the water temperature. The machine can also store settings for up to three different bottle sizes (you can select the size bottle you want with options from 2 to 10 ounces), which makes it convenient for parents who use different bottle sizes for their babies.
Baby Brezza Formula Pro is quite reliable in dispensing the correct amount of formula and water (if you follow the directions and clean it according to schedule), which is important for ensuring that your baby receives the proper nutrition.
The product also heats the water to the optimal temperature for baby formula, which can help to reduce the risk of bacteria growth and ensure that your baby’s bottles are consistent in temperature. Some users have reported that the machine can occasionally produce frothy or bubbly formula, but this issue can often be resolved by following the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and using the recommended formula brands. Plus, if you shake the bottle by hand it can make some bubbly formula as well.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Like any kitchen appliance, the Baby Brezza Formula Pro requires regular cleaning to ensure that it continues to function correctly. Cleaning equals time…
The product comes with a cleaning tool and instructions on how to clean the machine. Some moms (myself included) have reported that the product can be prone to clogging, which can be frustrating, but this issue can often be prevented by regularly cleaning the dispenser and following the manufacturer’s instructions.
You should do this after several uses and monthly sterilization requires taking apart the machine. It’s necessary because the formula is exposed to humidity, and water, and basically even if it doesn’t clog your machine or create crusty chunks stuck to the sides and bottom of the container which poses a risk (plus, have you ever smelled old formula? It’s nasty).
However, as according to Baby Brezza, you must clean the funnel piece after every fourth use to remove any formula buildup and let’s face reality: infants each so often that it can mean cleaning after every night. While this piece is easily removable and the Advanced has an indicator on the digital display to remind you when it’s time to do this.
Many friends have told me that in practice, you can simply pull it out and put it back in again but that poses a risk to the baby so I cannot recommend this practice. The maintenance and other risks are why I eventually gave up on it and switched to a different solution…
My Baby Breeza Formula Pro Review:
The Baby Brezza Formula Pro is a relatively expensive product, but it could be a worthwhile investment for parents who frequently use formula and want to streamline the bottle preparation process. My son was formula fed from the start, so I was so ready to spend the money on a product I’d be using basically nonstop.
Did Baby Breeza work? It did. It made the formula work just fine, or at least I thought it did – until I read about a lawsuit. Was Baby Brezza recalled?
No machines have been recalled, but there was a class action that claims that Baby Brezza Formula Pro and Formula Pro Advanced baby formula mixers are defective. It claimed that the machine mixes less formula than what is required and as a result, his child has received poor nutrition in the form of watered-down formula, leading to complications. The lawsuit has been dismissed, but it made me feel uneasy.
Then, on the other hand, if you look closely you will find that almost all baby formulas in the US have had an ongoing lawsuit or recall. Same with baby food so it’s normal to feel suspicious.
After reading hundreds of online reviews and using this product myself, I had two concerns with the Baby Brezza Formula Pro Advanced. Cleaning it was time-consuming and I could never be sure if it dispensed the correct amount of formula, even though it seemed to be accurate. Could it be right sometimes and occasionally wrong? Possibly, but it’s not possible for me to weigh every bottle and it would defeat the purpose of time-saving.
It did make a quick and warm bottle, which is nice in the middle of the night, but it needed to be cleaned all the time or it refuses to make a bottle. Eventually, I had to make sure it was always clean at least once or twice a day (depending on how hungry the baby was) or I was getting frustrated before making the bottle with the screaming baby. Plus, the water tank is pretty small so it needs to be refilled all the time.
Ultimately, I just didn’t think that it was saving me time in the long run and wasn’t worth the price. However, I was still annoyed with getting burned on water from the thermos and I gave the Baby Brezza Instant Warmer a try I think it’s MUCH better than their formula maker.
Baby Brezza Instant Warmer
The Instant Warmer doesn’t have to be cleaned all the time as it’s just water dispensed at the desired temperature – room, body, or warmer than the body. No need to check if the bottle is too cold or too hot. Just press to dispense.
Baby Brezza Instant Warmer was less than $50 for 4 times cheaper than the formula maker. We put it next to a night light at night, so we could see the amount of water dispensed easily. Combined with the premeasured formula dispensing compartments were fantastic for night feedings.
All it took was to move the bottle a few times to mix while taking two steps to reach the baby. No effort, no room for error really, and no stress that something might have gone wrong with the Formula Making machines.
It worked great before outings since we made a thermos full of water on the warmest setting and grabbed our dispensing compartments ready to go. We couldn’t do it with the full maker since the mixed formula cannot be left at room temperature or outside for a long.
Overall, the Baby Brezza Formula Pro seems to be a trendy convenient product for parents who use formula. However, I believe there are easier and safer solutions.
I couldn’t agree more with your review. I was constantly cleaning the machine as recommended by the instructions and noticed a lot of formula that was caked on or stuck in the dispenser piece that should have been in the baby bottle. I would estimate anywhere from 10-20% of the formula wouldn’t make it into the bottle per use. Not only a waste of money in lost formula but not correctly feeding my baby needed nutrients and calories. I decided to hand mix the formula and am much happier.
